In light of Mighty car Mods recent venture into Electric cars, What car would you E-mod?
I’d go with an older 2wd pickup. An extra cab too boot. With the engine gone you’ve got a size-able engine bay with room for a big motor, and a few batteries, or room for batteries once the big gas tank is evacuated, and even more room behind the seats in the cab.
Would it be a fun car? No but to me elecrtic car aren’t meant to be fun, But with enough range it could be a very useful daily driver that can haul a small load.
Or an Old Saab Cuz they’re already weird, and have lots of room in the back for batteries, with out loosing all of the cars utility.

I will get so much hatred for this, but I’d do it to my own car. I’d either go full EV or make it a hybrid... kind of like the original Insight.

I’ll get flak for this, but no EV, hybrid, or E-mod for me. Give me proper combustion motor for all things!

Because it just seems right. And it would fix the low power issue.

Because of course
Perfect platform though. Already light, and plenty of room for batteries with a bit of hacking and stripping.

Electric Dodge Ram for more low-end torque.

Absurdly light, well-supported electric conversion aftermarket, stylish, cheap, simple, can’t possibly be made slower, why use something that has space for a radiator that you don’t need, and they made 16 million of them so it’s not remotely sacrilegious.

Such a project is actually on my long list of “eventually-I-want-to...” but I’m not sure exactly what chassis, rather than super-sporty I’d want something fairly practical for driving to work or to the store, etc.
The Kei van in the MCM episode is a really good candidate, maybe that or a defunct Mazda rotary pickup or something.

A Renault Turbo 5 with a electric motor in the back in a longitudinal position and a electric motor in the front in the front in a horizontal position. Gear both motors identically. Ken block the shit out of it.

I would do my MG as long as the EV drive isn't made by Lucas!

It wouldn’t be pure electric. I would build a heavy-duty pickup truck using a hybrid diesel-electric drivetrain. The engine is coupled to a generator, no transmission, driveshaft or diff, just 2 500 ft lbs electric motors driving each rear wheel or maybe 4 250 ft lbs motors on each corner, depends on what is more effective. 1000 ft lbs at zero RPM and the ability to regen. The engine would be a smaller 2-3ish liter diesel with a generous battery pack, making maybe 300-400 ft lbs of torques. It would be designed to run at a single RPM so it could be designed for max power and efficiency. The power for starting from a stand still would come from a combo of the battery pack and the generator on the engine. Once you get up to speed, the engine would charge the battery pack up then shut off and go full electric until the battery drops to 60-70%, then it fires back up and recharges the battery. Weight should be around the same as a normal 6+ liter engine, reliability should go up, as you lose a ton of moving parts, and efficiency should be up as well. You could go with lightweight body panels(composite or aluminium) to help bring the weight down.

Ariel Atom.
Because instant torque, and relatively light weight. Also it would resolve the (arguable) problem of the air intake trying to eat your head.

Well, E-Ray was patented by GM. But then they would have to figure out how to cool an engine and a motor.

I don’t think you would be able to do it without some serious redesign, so kind of both.

Not a car, but I helped convert a motorcycle to electric power when I was in college.
We cut out the bottom of the gas tank for the batteries. They were shoved up in the tank but stuck out the bottom by an inch or two. From the top it looked completely stock (the electric motor was a dead giveaway looking from the side.)
This was a Honda 250, so improving on it was not exactly rocket science. Power was up slightly, but top speed was down because of poor gearing (I did not work on the final drive, I would have used a different ratio.) Range was around 60 miles depending on how you ride, but you could easily double that with saddlebag mounted batteries.
We used a cheap non-running bike from craigslist, but total cost came out under $4,000.

That would be cool. I’d put a stinger exhaust on the back but make it the plug in for the charger.
